Fine arts faculty member honored by Albany Center Gallery

Tara Fracalossi, an assistant professor in the department of Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Digital Media who also serves as director of the Teaching Gallery, was named “Artist of the Year” by the Albany Center Gallery.

She will receive the 2016 Mona Ruth Brickman Memorial Artist of the Year award during the Albany Center Gallery’s 40th anniversary celebration on Saturday, Nov. 19 at Renaissance Albany.

Fracalossi, a photographer, received a Master of Fine Arts degree from SUNY Albany and a BFA from the University of Vermont. She has exhibited locally and internationally, and is a recipient of two Photographer’s Fund Fellowships from the Center for Photography at Woodstock, a Fullbright travel grant from the US Department of State and several grants from the New York Foundation for the Arts.

“Archive,” Fracalossi’s ever-expanding body of work, is composed from tens of thousands of images that capture and preserve fleeting moments. The images are selected, combined and re-combined in accordance with various rules, resulting in compositions that map commonalities, disjunctions and arbitrary collisions that form the basis of any language, any thought or any mode of being.
